This design was created back in the 1980s and is said to have originated in a button from a wedding dress.
Babette has a height of 7 cm and a diameter of 8 cm. The weight is about 325 grams. Babette is made by our skilled craftsmen in Sweden!
Why Babette?
The name is perhaps best known from Karen Blixen's short story "Babette's Banquet", which was later made into a famous film. The story is about Babette, a French woman who flees to a small Danish village during the French Revolution and changes the lives of the inhabitants through her amazing cooking. The short story explores themes such as hospitality, self-sacrifice and artistic freedom. The book was written under the pseudonym Isak Dinesen.
The highly successful film adaptation was directed by the Dane Gabriel Axel and was very well received, both critically and commercially. It won an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 1988. Jarl Kulle stars in the role of General Lorens Löwenhielm.
A film well worth seeing and well worth the name!
